Mediabrands launches Magna Global in Melbourne

Marcelle Gomez and Tom Andrews

Mediabrands’ group buying unit Magna Global has opened an operation in Melbourne.

The unit will handle group buying for Mediabrands agencies UM, Initiative and MBThree, whose key clients include L’Oreal, Coles, Bunnings, Officeworks, Target and Kmart.

The unit will be run by Marcelle Gomez, currently a director at UM running the L’Oreal and World Vision accounts, as general manager.

Supporting her as investment director is Tom Andrews, UM Melbourne’s investment director.

The duo will report into the Sydney-based MD of Magna Global Australia, Victor Corones.

“With highly impressive growth rates and a constantly growing client portfolio, we are looking into the future for Magna Global and how to best place its resources against our clients and our agency teams,” said IPG Mediabrands executive chairman Henry Tajer.

“A large percentage of Magna Global’s growth is located in Melbourne and it makes sense for us to formalise operations there,” he said.

UM group director Kylie Pascoe will take on Gomez’s role, while Andrews will also continue in his role as investment director of UM Melbourne.

Corones said: “Magna Global Melbourne is a major investment in expanding our business’s capabilities, reach and client relationships. Marcelle and Tom and the team will work closely with our Sydney team and we look forward to their contributions as the pace of media continues to accelerate.”
