Meet the marketers with Mumbrella

Marketing bosses with four of the toughest briefs in Australia will gather for a Mumbrella marketing summit on January 31.

Andy Lark, chief marketing officer of Commonwealth Bank; Nick Baker, executive GM of marketing for Tourism Australia; Ed Smith, group marketing director of News Limited and Simon McDowell, marketing director of Coles, will participate in the session moderated by Mumbrella editor Tim Burrowes.

Andy LarkThe digitally savvy Andy Lark took the helm at CommBank five months ago after being VP of global marketing for Dell. He also blogs on marketing at The Daily Lark.

Lark is currently running a pitch for the bank’s creative business, with its campaigns among the most scrutinised in the Australian advertising industry.

ed smith news ltdEd Smith took charge of marketing for News Limited just over a year ago. Among the major tasks he faces are persuading readers to pay for online content with The Australian’s free trial period due to come to an end early in 2012.

Smith will also be leading News Limited’s planned rebrand to what is likely to be News Australia.

Nick Baker Tourism AustraliaBaker has led marketing at Tourism Australia for more than four years. Last year he oversaw the creation of the “There’s Nothing Like Australia” positioning for the brand while this year saw Tourism Australia’s Oprah Winfrey coup. Prior to Tourism Australia, Baker spent ten years with Voyages Hotels as EGM of sales and marketing.

simon mcdowellMcDowell has led Coles’ aggressive value based push against Woolworths which has seen the supermarket giant set the agenda via low pricing on everyday goods and the highly effective Down Down advertising campaign.

The event takes place at the Star Room, Imax Theatre, Darling Harbour, Sydney from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday January 31, followed by drinks and networking.
