Million Dollar Drop fails to reach 1m

Nine’s heavily promoted new game show Million Dollar Drop averaged just 933,000 and failed to make the top ten rating programs for the night.

According to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam, Million Dollar Drop was 12th for the night.

The show – promoted by Nine as coming from “a secret location” is – is made for the network by Southern Star at Docklands Studios in Melbourne.

Hosted by Eddie McGuire, it features couples fighting to retain as much of their starting pot of $1m as possible.

Last night’s contestants retained $160,000 after successfully guessing which one of the Hilton sisters was older.

The show was heavily supported by Nine, including a lead in of two new episodes of Two And A Half Men which rated 1.12m and 1.178m.

However, Seven dominated the night with the top three shows including My Kitchen Rules rating nearly 1.4m.

In the 8.30pm timeslot, Million Dollar Drop was beaten by Seven’s Conviction Kitchen (959,000) but beat Ten’s House (761,000).

In the key demographics, Million Dollar Drop performed even worse – 13th in 18-49; 12th in 16-39 and 12th in 25-54.
