Miranda Devine to launch 2GB talkback show
News Corp columnist Miranda Devine is to present a new weekly Sunday afternoon talkback program on 2GB, Mumbrella can reveal.
“It’s pacy – news, current affair, opinion, talkback,” Devine told Mumbrella. “That’s what 2GB does.”
Sydney Weekend with Dan Mullins previously held the 4pm – 6pm timeslot on both Saturday and Sunday.
At this stage Devine has no plans to be involved in summer programming.
The move by 2GB to put Devine in a presenter role is a new one, with the the station currently only having one regular female presenter. Sandra Ross co-presents The Garden Clinic with Graham Ross in the Sunday 6am – 9am timeslot.
Asked about the rarity of women in talkback roles, Devine told Mumbrella “I am a woman, I don’t really think about it.”
On what the program will cover this Sunday, she said: “Wait and see, watch this space.”
“Tune in, you’ll be pleasantly surprised,” she added.
2GB, owned by the Macquarie Radio Network, is Sydney’s highest rating radio station with presenters including Alan Jones and Ray Hadley.

I was just thinking, what we really need is a right-wing view on talk back radio.

“It’s spacy – racist views, PC gone mad, wankers, douchebags” Devine told Mumbrella. “That’s what 2GB does.”

Fantastic news. Congrats! Amanda, the audience is crying out for women in media who share your views; we’re insulted by and sick of hearing from the radical feminist agenda across the blogosphere. Best wishes.

I have enjoyed listening to Miranda with Steve Price and now look forward to hearing her on Sundays. Well done 2GB.
Regarding the comments above, if it is annoys the totalitarian Greens above, its must be a good thing.

Miranda’s always excellent – a strong and sensible commentator. Looking forward to tuning in

Yet another reason why I don’t listen to commercial radio. It’s hard enough having to listen to her colleague Janet Albrechtsen on Q&A.

@ Romy … her name’s Miranda, not Amanda. You must be a real fan. But never mind, as long as whoever she is gives it to those nasty lefties, right?

“Radical feminist agenda”….like the one that allows a woman like Miranda to be educated, and work in a role where her views do hold value? Perhaps she even owns property without having to ask for her father or husband’s permission? And it appears she is allowed to drive and pal around with men she’s not related to and even, vote.
Oh Romy.

As much as I disagree with her politics, I think this is actually a magnificent move for her and the station. Hopefully she’ll eventually get moved into prime-time or at least get a regular segment on Hadley or Jones to give it some extra weight. (But I won’t hold my breath.)
Funnily enough, what I like about this even more is that she is a writer who refuses to be a mouthpiece for “women’s issues” but rather chooses to engage with the entire political landscape, which may well mean that she is taken more seriously by the conservative audience, the right’s own version of Leigh Sales, if you will. To have a woman on the air on 2GB doing a major program on news and talkback is fantastic, especially given that she is doing a program *on her own* and it isn’t about a “Women’s Hour” topic like gardening, sewing, food or parenting. Shame it’s on Sundays, but you know, baby steps!
I never thought I’d see the day that I’d say it, but 2GB have actually taken a huge step forward in terms of feminism with this move. It’s a decision made on merit (in terms of what their market wants) and I reckon Devine is going to nail it.
At least, I really, really hope she does. (Even though ‘nailing it’ means that she is going to make me very, very cross.) I don’t want this to be another footnote in the (bulldust) narrative of “why women shouldn’t be on commercial AM radio”.

I am thrilled that 2GB has made a weekend slot available for talk back. And Miranda Devine is brilliant! I will be listening from Queensland.

I notice the ferals had to have their say. The left and their pathetic hate is the reason why they are in opposition if you can call that mob an opposition. Good luck Miranda.

That’s wonderful Miranda. I’ll look forward to listening to you. I miss talk-back radio of a weekend.

That’s great Miranda, I look forward to it.
Suzie Ellerman (I think that is how you spell her surname) does midnight to dawn fill-ins for us insomniacs and she has quite a good following.

Congratulations Miranda. An intelligent female – rather than a feminist’s female – how refreshing. I enjoy your writing and commentating so I will be tuning in from QLD. The non-left will be spoilt for choice with Miranda Devine, Janet Albrectson and Judith Sloan providing intelligent voices on interesting topics.

Shlock jock Michael Smith’s zombie hit squad seems to have woken from its slumber and been seconded to Miranda cheer squad duties.

Miranda Devine, what would you think, another right-wing presented with tunnel vision, When will 2GB ever get a balanced presenter that listens to all views and ideas, I give up.

Damn! Just when 2UE made a very rare sensible programming decision and took more bloody sport off weekend afternoons, 2GB goes and puts one of my favourites on. What am I to do? No contest weekend mornings with George and Paul (is this the best show on radio?), but will I have to switch back and forth in the afternoon? And a quick word of advice to all the left wing trendoids who seem to gather on Mumbrella: use the on-off switch – we’d hate for you to get too upset.

Well done Miranda! An interesting and informative show. A wonderful entrée to what we can expect. One show- Tony Abbott on his bushfire roll, Dr Michael Carr Gregg on current HSC ways to help students, Bettina Arndt on infidelity in marriage.. or not, the head of RFS in Port Stephens. All in all a well rounded show with current concerns all covered. Look forward to the next instalment.
