Mix launches search for new Sydney breakfast host after Rochford moves to TV
Sydney’s Mix 106.5 is to look for a new sidekick for Claire Hooper after the departure of Andrew Rochford to host Ten’s new breakfast.
The Australian Radio network issued a statement from national content director Duncan Campbell saying: “We wish Andrew all the best with his new TV venture in 2012. We are now actively looking for Andrew’s replacement and should be in a position to make an exciting announcement in the near future. Finding someone who has great chemistry with Claire and can wake Sydney-siders up with a laugh and engaging chat will be paramount.”
Rochford and Hooper only took to the air the start of the year, but with the help of a promotion to win a house approached a 5% share.
They took the slot after the departure of previous breakfast pairing Mike Etheridge and Carmela Contarino who were ousted after poor ratings. They lasted a year, having replaced Sonia Kruger and Todd McKenney.
Campbell said: “After a lot of research and rebuilding, we are very confident that we have the Mix 106.5 format right and as a result we have had significant share and cumulative audience growth versus last year. The Mix offer extends beyond a single presenter and is a combination of the music, the breakfast show, promotions and our personalities.”
On the move, Rochford said said, “It was an offer too good to refuse from Channel 10 that sees me leave at the end of the year. It will be a sad day, but I would like to thank everyone over at Mix.”
Both Mix1065s listeners at breakfast will be very disappointed that Rochford is leaving.

I’d be really good at breakfast radio: I have a clear voice and I know how to read aloud the Telegraph as though I had written it.

I suggest Mikey Robins with Claire Hooper would be a perfect mix. They work brilliantly together on Good News Week.
