Modern Family actor fronts latest Air New Zealand safety video from UK agency Albion
President Barack Obama, Julia Gillard and Snoop Dogg all make an animated appearance in the latest safety video for Air New Zealand.
The video, fronted by Modern Family’s Ed O’Neil and Melanie Lynskey of Two and a Half Men, gives safety instructions via an animated sketch, and is a departure from the airline’s previous award winning “nothing to hide” campaign, in which airline staff were dressed only in body-paint.
Created by UK based creative agency Albion, the execution has already clocked 648,000 views on YouTube in the six days is has been online and is supported by a wider campaign where consumers can win a round the world trip for two if they correctly identify more than five celebrities featured in the video.
Mike Tod, Air NZ’s GM of marketing and communications, said: “It’s great to be able to deliver our safety messages in an engaging, informative way that also makes people smile – and this time around gives them a chance to win a trip to see the world.”
The safety video will roll out on all domestic and international flights from early July.
Who started this trend of ‘fun’ aircraft safety videos? This one actually made me blush it was so unfunny, and it’s dangerously oblique. Oxygen mask drills are actually important enough not to wrap up in poorly animated blank references to King Kong. What, for that matter, did Ed O’Neill add to this? I am and will remain confused.

Vigin Atlantic are the masters of this niche I think… Vic Reeves V.O and treads the line well, using a touch of humour to draw attention to the video and get people watching… As for the above, they lost me at “… That would be why.”

JP: Because these videos get people to pay attention. Playing the same boring monotonous video for years like many carriers do makes people tune out. This gets people to watch. Job -> Done.

Wow harsh, I like it. I could watch it a few times and find something new in the animation.

For me you peaked at the nude/world cup/ richard simmonds combo. It was always going to be a hard landing after that.
I like it. Esp the prize thing and as mentioned takes your mind away from the repetition of extending the elastic band around the back of your head and breathing normally.
