Mashable: Apple’s holiday ad is a real tearjerker

“With just a week or so worth of shopping days left this holiday season, Apple has dropped a tearjerker of an ad designed to get you to fork over some of your remaining cash.

The 90-second spot (triple the length of a standard TV ad) tells the story of a girl who finds a vinyl record that her grandmother gave to her in 1952. The record is the grandmother’s rendition of “Love is Here to Stay.” The song is prefaced by a message from the grandmother to her husband that she’s sorry that she can’t spend the holidays with him.”

Campaign: Unicef “this Christmas” by Forsman & Bodenfors

“Father Christmas is surprised to find that a home has been hastily abandoned by its occupants in a new ad for Unicef. Forsman & Bodenfors created the ad, which will air run in Sweden, and shows Santa wandering around a house that a family was forced to flee because of a crisis. The ad leads viewers to a website where people can by vital supplies to children who have become refugees.”

AdWeek: Dogs Sniff Out Herpes and Other STIs in This Amusingly Gross Mockumentary

“Next time a dog comes up to you and starts sniffing a little too close, it could be time to panic. He or she might be smelling your sexually transmitted infection.

This mockumentary short for Randox Laboratories shows a team of pooches using their fine-tuned sense of smell to detect herpes, chlamydia, gonorrhea and other sexually transmitted infections. Then they send the dogs out for a night on the town with a squad of officers to find diseased patrons prowling the streets and hitting on unsuspecting people in clubs. (The video, while safe for work, does have a hilarious scene of a retriever fetching a dildo, so you’ve been warned.)”

Campaign: Ogilvy & Mather names Ben Richards global strategy chief

“Ogilvy & Mather has appointed Ben Richards as worldwide chief strategy officer, a new role that reports directly to the worldwide chairman and chief executive, Miles Young.

Working closely alongside Young, Richards, 35, will oversee strategy across Ogilvy’s 538 offices in 126 countries and lead the group’s business transformation efforts.”
