Ad Week: eBay builds new campaign around song lyrics, and it’s glorious

Goodby, Silverstein & Partners just released one of the most playful, infectious and eye-catching ad campaigns of the year—five online spots for eBay that cleverly combine music and design to show off the vast array of merchandise on the site.

The “Shop a Song” spots, directed by Robert Bisi of Brand New School, are built around the soundtracks. As each song plays, products pop up that match the lyrics in some way—either literally or figuratively (which is sometimes more fun).

This results in mini music videos that are impeccably designed, and great fun to watch.

Ad Age: McD’s gets serious about peace day

McDonald’s has teamed up with a number of other companies for a collaborative International Peace Day effort, including rival Burger King, which began a public push for action with its McWhopper idea.

The campaign, including a 30-second commercial seeking donations to a leading global hunger organization, comes as hundreds of thousands of people are displaced worldwide. Peace Day is Monday, Sept. 21.

Digiday: The creator of the most popular ad blocker has pulled it from the app store

The most popular iOS ad blocker is pulling a Barry Sanders.

Yesterday was a big day for iOS 9’s early slate of ad blockers, which shot to the top of Apple’s paid app charts.  Today, Peace, the most popular of those apps, has been taken down — all because of a little thing called ethics.

“Ad blockers come with an important asterisk: while they do benefit a ton of people in major ways, they also hurt some, including many who don’t deserve the hit,” said Peace creator Marco Arment in a post announcing the move

Talking at a session on the global football economy at Sports Matters, Adrian New, Asia MD of Chelsea FC, shared that Rotary grew unhappy with Mourinho appearing at press conferences wearing a Hublot watch, and so did not renew their sponsorship deal, which began for the 2013/2014 season.

Images include references to founder Soichiro Honda’s use of a radio generator to power his wife’s bike, Honda’s motorcycle development and multiple shots of cars past and present, including the new 2016 Pilot vehicle. The creative agency is RPA.
