Morrison Media acquires Slow Magazine
Queenland-based publisher Morrison Media, which produces women’s title Frankie, has acquired Melbourne-based quarterly Slow Magazine, a niche title about ‘living life in the slow lane’.
The acquisition of the three year-old magazine, which is positioned as way to ‘escape from the stresses and demands of modern life’, comes six months after a strategic review by Morrison led to the closure of four titles, and the launch of two.
Morrison Media director Peter Morrison said: “We see Slow as creating a new, unique sector on the newsstands – it follows a worldwide trend where we’re seeing niche magazine titles gaining ground, while the more traditional titles reduce their market share.”
“Slow is listening to the market – it has a highly engaged readership which we intend to satisfy with excellent content. And Morrison Media understands that while a digital version is essential, some magazines are built to last in both forms of media,” he said.
Slow Magazine will sit in a stable that includes Frankie, White Horses and Smith Journal. It has a readership of around 55,000, according to the publisher.
Slow’s managing editor Jacqui Mott, added: “It’s an opportunity to shift down a gear. Slow is a topic that’s being talked about everywhere – because we lead such frantic lives.”
“That’s why our editorial team is dedicated to bringing readers a quality magazine, that not only speaks of this broad cultural shift towards a slower lifestyle, but that delivers genuine editorial and photography in an award-winning style,” he said.
