MTV global boss: Australia is solid and we’re still eyeing expansion

The global boss of MTV-owner Viacom has said that the famous entertainment brand is still eyeing expansion in Australia – despite a local restructure that saw a number of redundancies made and local programming scaled back last year.

Philippe Dauman, president and CEO of Viacom, told Mumbrella: “Australia is a great market for us, although it’s not a huge from a population stand point.”

“I see our Australian operations as solid, and we expect to expand there,” he said. “There is more potential in the absolute sense in markets such as China and India. But in the relative sense, we expect to get bigger, and add more brands to the market.”

“We want more share of audience and more share of advertising, and will continue to support the market in Australia.”

MTV made a raft of redundancies as part of a restructure last November.
