Paid and unpaid media contributions

Mumbrella journalists regularly appear as industry commentators on TV and radio and sometimes in public speaking roles. On occasion, there are contributor fees offered and accepted. Where this occurs, the relevant organisations are invoiced by Focal Attractions rather than by the journalist individually, in the same way that we invoice our advertisers. The purpose of this is so that a journalist does not have a personal financial interest in continuing to make appearances, so feels free to write about these organisations in whatever way they see fit.

Mumbrella journalists make regular or occasional contributions on ABC Radio National, ABC Hobart, ABC Gold Coast, ABC Ballarat, ABC Canberra, ABC Triple J, ABC702, Seven’s Sunrise, Morning Show and Today Tonight, Ten’s Breakfast and Nine’s A Curent Affair as well as Ten Eyewitness News. Where journalists write columns for media organisations that we might later cover our policy is to bill through the company if payment is offered.

Mumbrella deputy editor Nic Christense had an ongoing relationship with Radio 2GB which pre-dated his joining Mumbrella.  This employment concluded in February of 2015, ahead of its merger with Fairfax Radio.

On rare occasions our journalists offer media training – but only to organisations we would be unlikely to write about.
