Mumbrella Readers Choice Awards – ad of the year shortlist

Mumbrella Awards trophiesThe following entries have been shortlisted in the ad of the year category of the Mumbrella Readers Choice Awards.  

The order that follows was deliberately randomised so there is no alphabetical advantage in the order they appear.

PUBLICIS MOJO, JAMES BOAG’S PURE (LION NATHAN), ‘THE ISLAND’ TVC

Publicis Mojo Sydney created an ad campaign to promote the launch of Lion Nathan’s new premium beer brand, James Boag’s Pure.

The TV spot depicts Tasmania as a deep and mysterious wilderness filled with strange natural phenomena waiting to be discovered – and it is only here that James Boag’s Pure can be made.

 

CRC, THE KILLERS, ‘GOODNIGHT, TRAVEL WELL’ MUSIC VIDEO

Sydney agency Colman Rasic Carrasco (CRC) created a music video for The Killers’ track Goodnight, Travel Well as part of its work with MTV against human trafficking.

The project, which involved partnering with UNICEF and USAID, highlighted the hidden cost of sexual exploitation.

The four minute video was given a global premiere on MTV.

 

DROGA5, VB (Foster’s), ‘THE REGULARS’ TVC

The ad was filmed in Ballarat with a cast of 1500, featuring a march of comical archetypal Aussie men. They include “blokes punching above their weight”, “men who’ve had their arm in a cow”, “guys who peaked in high school and “meat tray winners”.

It also included cameos from Australian personalities such as Michael Clarke, Wally Lewis, Paul De Gelder, Scott Cam, Molly Meldrum, Peter Russell Clarke, Dean Jones, Michael Klim, Billy Brownless and Greg Evans.

 

THREE DRUNK MONKEYS, BBC KNOWLEDGE, ‘MOON WEEK’ TVC

Three Drunk Monkeys created a line animation ad to tell the story of man’s first trip to the Moon, using a voice over from American scientist Ted Maynard.

The work, also backed by a radio campaign, promoted subscription channel BBC Knowledge’s Moon Week, which kicked off in July to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Apollo landing.

EURO RSCG, VEET (RECKITT BENCKISER), ‘GOODBYE BUSH’ PRESS AD

The topical press ad ran on the day of President Obama’s inauguration and quickly went viral.

PUBLICIS MOJO, JAMES BOAG’S DRAUGHT (LION NATHAN), ‘PURE WATERS’ TVC

Publicis Mojo Sydney created a TVC for James Boag’s Draught. The agency used storytelling to describe the purity of Tasmania’s water which goes into making “a new order of beer”.

BMF, MEAT AND LIVESTOCK AUSTRALIA, ‘LAMBSTOCK’ TVC

BMF launched a TVC for Meat and Livestock Australia, tying in with the 40th anniversary of Woodstock.

The 45-second ad featured hippies at a music festival gathering around to eat lamb to mimick smoking marijuana, including rolling a lamb wrap in the shape of a joint and passing it around the group.
