My Kitchen Rules finale draws 1.969m for winner announcement, down on last year
The finale of last night’s My Kitchen Rules saw 1.969mm metro viewers tune in to see Melbourne sisters Tasia and Gracia crowned the winners.
The episode had an average audience of 1.820m metro viewers with the winners’ announcement segment the most-watched show across the key advertising demographics (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54). The rest of the finale, which aired on Seven from 7.30pm to 9.45pm, was the second most-watched program.
The result was, for the second year in a row, down on last year, when the finale of the reality cooking franchise drew 2.082m.
MKR won the night with Nine running dead in the 7.30pm timeslot choosing to run Cats Vs Dogs: Which is Best? which drew 421,000 metro viewers.
Ten’s Bondi Rescue and Territory Cops drew 564,000 and 518,000 in the same time slot.
Later in the evening, Seven’s relationship show Seven Year Switch, which aired directly after MKR at 9.45pm, pulled in 786,000 metro viewers.
NCIS, on Ten at 8.30pm, was watched by 570,000 while Nine’s Reno Rumble, airing from 9pm, grabbed XX.
In the news battleground, Seven News at 6pm had an audience of by 1.150m, slipping to 1.072m from 6.30pm.
Nine News at 6pm grabbed 1.085m, dipping to 1.072m from 6.30pm.
In breakfast TV, Seven’s Sunrise drew 328,000 but was beaten by Nine’s Today which was watched by 349,000.
My Kitchen Rules is cheesy, overproduced, predictable and fake. It appeals to the lowest common denominator. And I love every single second of it. Every. Second.

These audience numbers suggest two things to me:
1. Channel 7 knows its market
2. Australians are incredibly stupid

The winner’s meals had chilli chilli chilli chilli. There is a time and place for chilli but not in every course you serve. It’s a poor reflection on MKR when the winners could not prepare any dishes outside of their own region – Indonesia. No wonder viewer numbers were down.

@Chef – if your only issue with MKR is the fact they used too much chili, you’re doing just fine.

To the Producers and Judges of “My Kitchen Rules”:
I watch MKR regularly and enjoy the original concept. Tho annoying, I do understand your wish to include at least 2 “bitches” in every season for the audience to hate. Show Business. However I can’t understand why you and the Judges allow contestants what is called “Strategic Voting” on the Instant Restaurant rounds. Contestants placed low on your leaderboard regularly and openly score others unfairly low, solely to make them fail in the numbers. The Judges – fully aware – smile blandly throughout and say not a word to discourage this behaviour.
The competition puts the contestants through a grueling series of tests which are meant to encourage good cooks to learn and succeed. Scoring points on anything other than the presentation and quality of meals served is counter to this purpose and dishonest as well. I think anyone practicing “Strategic Voting” should be immediately disqualified from MKR. It is not difficult to locate these people. They announce their intentions and motives openly and often on the program. Some seem to believe that this is fair practice and I don’t see anyone discouraging that attitude.
“Strategic Voting” drastically lowers audience respect for the Judges and the program as a whole. I can’t see that you would lose viewers or a significant amount of money by establishing a policy of integrity and fair play.
Sincerely,
L. Scott
