Myer chief marketer departs after six month stint

Retailer Myer is again without a chief marketer following the departure of executive general manager of marketing John Joyce after just six months in the role.

A spokeswoman for Myer today confirmed the departure saying Joyce had only been on a temporary contract, following the promotion of marketing boss Megan Foster in August last year.

“John Joyce was with Myer on a fixed term contract and he left in mid-April to pursue other opportunities”, a Myer spokeswoman told Mumbrella.

The departure means Myer is again without a head of marketing as its creative pitch, which is down to incumbent Badjar Ogilvy and the Clemenger Group, now stretches into its ninth month.

In the absence of a chief marketer it is understood the pitch is being run by Natalie Warren-Smith national manager of advertising and promotion, with other senior executives including Myer CEO Bernie Brookes also involved.

During his stint at Myer, Joyce was a member of the executive management team, with overall responsibility for development of the Myer brand and subsidiary brands.

Joyce, a former CEO of the Rebel Group, has now returned to his consultancy business.

Myer first called the creative pitch back in August, two years earlier than expected.

It is understood Myer is in the process of recruiting a permanent marketing boss.
