Nation opens in Canberra

Adelaide-based Nation Creative has partnered with four former Grey Canberra employees to open doors in the nation’s capital.

The announcement:

Four members of the ex-Grey Advertising Canberra office represent the foundation for the ACT market’s newest advertising agency – NATION.

John Attard, Phil Selby, Julia Unwin, and Gabrielle D’Ambrosio were left without jobs when Grey closed the doors of its Canberra office in December last year.

Partnering with Adelaide-based NATION Creative Pty Ltd, the team has secured the CIC Australia business and will also provide a local marketing resource for Beyond Bank Australia.

CIC Australia found themselves without an agency with the closure of Grey.

“We had an opportunity to enter the Canberra market through Beyond Bank,” said Greg Knagge, Managing Director of NATION. “CIC Australia and the new NATION team made it possible”.

The NATION Canberra crew has extensive experience on the CIC brands including the highly successful Googong project, a joint venture with Mirvac.

Caroline Whitelum, National Marketing Manager for CIC Australia said, “This is the ideal outcome. We get to keep our trusted Canberra agency team together, while NATION Adelaide brings a fresh, strategic perspective to our brands.”

NATION has been established for over three years and in that time has grown to a full time staff of 13.

The client list is made up of some of South Australia’s leading local and national brands including Beyond Bank, The University of Adelaide, Stratco, Thoroughbred Racing SA, Nippy’s, Netball Australia, and Santos.

The entry of NATION into the market will mean more choice for Canberra businesses seeking a strategy-led brand agency.

“NATION has a refreshing philosophy and a unique approach to providing marketing services. We’re really thrilled to be able to provide a genuine alternative to what is currently on offer here in Canberra,” said John Attard, NATION Art Director.

NATION’s simple, less layered structure is a deliberate departure from the traditional agency model. “It’s this model that allows us to be more responsive, more efficient and ultimately more cost effective in everything we do for our clients,” says Greg Knagge.

Julia Unwin, Project Director added, “We’ve worked on many of the ACT’s biggest brands and we know this market. We’re very excited by the potential of our new agency.”
