Three face off on NBN Co media shortlist

NBN coThree media agencies are understood to be facing off for the NBN Co pitch, Mumbrella can reveal.

The pitch looks set to see incumbent IMG Mediabrands agency UM fighting DentsuAegis’ Mitchell & Partners and GroupM’s Mindshare for the media account.

When the account was last pitched it was thought to have a spend of $20m, although it is thought this spend has been significantly reduced in recent years following the change of government and major changes to the rollout of the NBN.

Many of those pitching are thought to be expecting a surge in media spend following the conclusion of a deal between Telstra and the NBN Co over the rollout. All agencies approached declined to comment.

Mumbrella revealed that the media pitch was occurring earlier the month, with the review coming just a week after the company appointed BWM as its creative agency after a competitive pitch between six agencies, which included the former incumbent Host.

At the time an NBN Co spokesman said: “We have been reviewing our agency relationships to ensure we have the right support to assist us in communicating the NBN’s new strategic direction.”

Nielsen reported that NBN Co had a media spend of just $356,000 for the 12 months August 2014.

Earlier this year UM lost the Federal Government moving its media buying account to Mitchell & Partners.
