news.com.au declares Joe Hockey the winner

Remember how News Ltd’s Daily Telegraph made the unfortunate mistake of announcing the wrong winner for Masterchef?

Joe Hockey Liberal winIt would seem that sister site news.com.au didn’t learn the lesson and also had alternative headlines ready before pressing the wrong button.

Hence the fact that it triumphantly announced the victory of Joe Hockey in the leadership battle for the Liberal Party.

To give the website credit, after changing the headline to more correctly reflect a Tony Abbott win, it later added a link from the story to a twitpic screengrab of the wrong headline.

And unlike the Tele’s Masterchef disaster, only the headline was wrong, rather than there being an imaginary story too.

At least with online, you’re never wrong for long.

  6. I’m appreciating the irony of the misspelling of “being” in the post. But in all seriousness, thanks for the screenshot Tim!

  8. In the spirit of “never wrong for long” – that’s not how you spell “being” Tim!

  12. Well actually, seeing as Hockey did not seem too keen to take on a fractured party just before what looks to be a dismal election result perhaps he is the winner after all. Maybe just news.com.au being (accidentally) prescient?
