News Limited and AACTA creates ‘Most Memorable Moment’ Award

News Limited and the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards have partnered to ask Australian audiences their favourite moment from the following categories: best reality television series, best television drama series, best telefeature or mini-series and best film.

The best moment from each production was selected by the producers and is now open to public vote. The clips can be viewed and voted for on news.com.au

The announcement:

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) is calling on audiences to determine Australia’s most memorable film and television moment of 2012.

AACTA has identified 20 moments from productions which viewers throughout Australia were treated to both on small and large screens in the past year.

The one moment which receives the most audience votes will receive the news.com.au Audience Choice Award for Most Memorable Moment, presented in partnership with News Limited, at the upcoming 2nd AACTA Awards Ceremony in Sydney, broadcast on Network Ten on Wednesday 30 January.

The moments contending for this Audience Choice Award were chosen by the producers of film and television productions nominated for an AACTA Award this year in the following categories: Best Reality Television Series; Best Television Drama Series; Best Telefeature or Mini Series; and Best Film.

Also in the running for the Audience Choice Award are moments from the top four highest grossing films at the Australian Box Office for 2012, which were not already captured as nominees for the AACTA Award for Best Film.*

From Rachael Leahcar’s evocative rendition of ‘’La Vie En Rose’’ catapulting the singer and reality series The Voice into the public’s consciousness, to parents skinny dipping on Puberty Blues, and from Kath’s revolutionary speech to the people of Papilloma in Kath & Kimderalla, to Kerry Packer (Lachy Hulme) venting his spleen in Howzat! Kerry Packer’s War, the contending moments provide a diverse selection for audience consideration.

AFI | AACTA CEO, Damian Trewhella, said: “Whilst it’s important that the Australian Academy honours our best practitioners, performers and productions through peer-assessed voting in the AACTA Awards, the Academy must also be accessible to all Australians as we celebrate film and television excellence across the nation.

“Australian film has resonated with audiences and critics alike this past year, Australian TV drama and reality productions have dominated network schedules, and audience numbers have shown that Australians are hungry for quality local content. It’s now time for the public to award the number one on-screen moment which captured our nation’s imagination through our Audience Choice Award.”
