News Limited has appointed Fiorella Di Santo as its group sales director.

She has been promoted from deputy sales director after less than a year in the role, and replaces Tony Kendall, who quit the company last week.

A 17-year veteran of the company, Di Santo was part of the launch team for commuter paper mX. In 2007 she was promoted to national sales director of NewsNet – now known as News Australia – Sales – and four years later to the deputy director of sales role.

The announcement from News Limited:

The chief executive officer of News Limited, Kim Williams, today announced the appointment of Fiorella Di Santo as the company’s group director – sales.

Ms. Di Santo, who has been promoted from the role of deputy director of sales, reports to Mr. Williams and succeeds Tony Kendall who resigned from the company last week. The appointment is effective immediately.

As News Limited’s group director – sales, Ms Di Santo is responsible for leveraging News’ valuable network of brands to increase advertising revenue and ensure the company provides the most effective and innovative advertising solutions and customer insights for its commercial partners.

Mr Williams said: “Fiorella is an exceptional sales leader and has the highest respect of our customers and people. She has a clear vision that promotes innovation, customers and creativity – three key pillars of News’ commercial strategy.

“She is the right person to drive this strategy and our sales teams as News Limited continues to evolve, putting customers at the centre of all we do. I am delighted that Fiorella has accepted the role.”

Ms Di Santo said: “I am very excited to have been offered the role by Kim. It’s a great honour.  News has such an extraordinary range of assets which allow advertisers to connect with customers.

“We print and distribute over 16 million papers a week. Our digital web sites are visited by almost 8 million people a month. We have a leadership position in key categories such as news, sport, lifestyle and business.  And we are increasingly using data insights and mobility solutions to drive sales and consideration across the rich diversity of technologies on which our products are delivered.

“When you intelligently combine all of these assets, we are able to offer our customers solutions that are just so much greater than the sum of the parts,” Ms Di Santo said.

Ms Di Santo joined News 17 years ago, going on to work in various sales roles. She played an integral role in the launch of mX and was mX’s advertising manager for three years before being appointed deputy sales director for NewsNet in 2004.

In 2007, she was promoted to national sales director of NewsNet, a role she held for four years before moving into the position of deputy director of sales in December 2011.

In her role as deputy director of sales Ms Di Santo led the establishment of News’ state sales teams, integrating community, regional, digital and metropolitan team into one team, providing a better service for advertisers.
