News makes three appointments to newly merged sales force

Sheard

Robinson

Lewis

News Limited has made three senior appointments to its newly merged sales operation.

The hires come just weeks before News Limited officially unveils its new brand, News Australia.

Neil Robinson, currently NSW sales director of NewsNet, takes on the role of commercial director of News Australia – sales. Nicola Lewis, now national sales director of News Digital Media, has been made NSW sales director of News Australia – Sales. And NewsNet’s Victoria sales director Ashley Sheard has been appointed Victoria sales director of News Australia – Sales.

News announced it had merged its print and sales team last month, with Tony Prentice appointed to run the combined operation as director of sales.

Prentice said in a statement:

Together Neil, Nicola and Ashley will make up one of the strongest and most respected sales management teams in Australia. Between them they have decades of experience at the highest levels of newspapers, magazines and digital both here and overseas. More importantly, their relationships with our agency and advertising partners are second to none.

Our stable of premium brands which attract an audience unmatched in its breadth and depth gives us an incredible opportunity to grow revenue and share. Our challenge is to realise this opportunity and make the most of being Australia’s only truly integrated sales team, offering unrivalled audience-led solutions.

Robinson’s career includes stints at News Corp’s The Times, Sunday Times, The Sun and the now defunct News of the World. He has been NewsNet’s NSW sales director since 2007.

Lewis worked at Conde Nast and News International in the UK before moving to Australia to join Fairfax. She joined News Digital Media as group sales manager in 2009. She was promoted to NSW sales manager in 2010 and national sales director in 2011.

Sheard worked at Fairfax and Rural Press publications before joining News Limited in 2003. He was appointed NewsNet’s Victoria sales director in 2008.

All three start in their new roles when News Australia launches in early April.
