News and test cricket help Nine win the night as Ten edges Seven for total network share

Cricket testNews and cricket handed a win to Nine yesterday with the channel securing an audience share of 18.5 per cent ahead of Seven’s share of 15.9 per cent.

Nine News at 6pm was the most watched show overall grabbing a metro audience of 1.222m, with Nine News at 6.30 watched by 1.183m, and session three of the fourth test between Australia and India was the most watched non-news show of the day with a metro audience of 927,000, down on Wednesday’s audience of 1.017m.

The second innings of the match pulled an audience of 699,000 after 584,000 watched the first session of the day’s play. The Cricket Show during the lunch break had an audience of 524,000.

In other cricket, session two of Ten’s Big Bash match between Perth Scorchers and the Brisbane Heat grabbed a metro audience of 707,000, according to numbers from Ten based on OzTam timings, after 565,000 viewers watched session one. The post-game broadcast was watched by 397,000.Ten had an audience share of 13.7 per cent ahead of the ABC’s share of 10.4 per cent.

In other TV, Seven’s most watched non-news show was Border Security – Australia’s Front Line which lured a crowd of 667,000 metro viewers at 7pm. It was out-rated by Nine’s A Current Affair which was watched by 910,000.

At 7.30, the ABC’s 7.30 Summer was watched by 677,000, out-rating Seven’s My France with Manu, Nine’s Getaway and session one of Ten’s Big Bash.

In the 8.30pm timeslot, Nine’s Kings Cross ER grabbed an audience of 586,000.

Seven News at 6pm was watched by 820,000 dropping to 733,000 at 6.30pm.

Ten’s One gained a healthy share of 7.3 per cent thanks to the 8.30pm movie Cowboys & Aliens which was watched by 353,000 viewers. Ten’s Eleven also did well with an audience share of 5.1 per cent after 222,000 viewers tuned in for the 8.30pm movie Water for Elephants. When the secondary channel share are accounted for Ten nudged out Network seven, with a network share of 26.1 per cent, just behind Nine’s overall share of 26.4 per cent.

7Two grabbed an audience share of 6.3 per cent after 222,000 tuned in for the night matches at the Brisbane International.
