Dr Mumbo

Newspaper Works boss eschews paper for his debut publication

The man charged with promoting the newspaper industry Mark Hollands has released his debut novel. Interestingly though Newspaper Works CEO Mark Hollands has decided to go all-digital, giving paper formats a swerve.

And judging from the promotional material Dr Mumbo has to wonder what sort of private life the affable Englishman has been leading to research the novel, Amplify. Perhaps he took some inspiration from dealing with some of media’s toughest operators in his day job.

Billed as a crime thriller set in the seedy world of rock music, Hollands promises a raucous romp through Sydney’s music scene as his anti-hero, Billy Lime, tries to save himself from a murder charge while trying to salvage a rock band’s tour that was being run by the slaughtered promoter.

Mark HollandsPacked with bikie gangs and lashings of sex, drugs and rock’n’roll, Dr Mumbo wonders if the affable Hollands put his life on the line rubbing shoulders with a multitude nefarious characters in the cause of accuracy, or does the former journo just have a very active imagination.

Arbiter of such things, former Daily Telegraph editor and 2UE breakfast co-host Garry Linnell has dubbed the novel “like reading a book with a fast, grinding guitar soundtrack in the background”.

The book, Amplify: A Billy Lime Thriller, is being released on e-readers and is available from Amazon.
