Nine drops below 20 per cent audience share after Love Comes to Town bombs
Nine’s overall audience share has dropped below 20 per cent after taking just 17.3 per cent of of the metro market audience.
The network’s When Love Comes to Town bombed in the 8.30pm time slot with just 510,000 viewers for the night and ranking as the 21st most watched show for Wednesday.
Nine’s nightly news broadcast fared better taking the second spot with 1.214 million viewers according to OzTam’s overnight ratings.
House Rules won the overnight ratings taking 1.377 million viewers and Seven News took third with 1.156 million helping Seven win the night’s highest audience share of 23.5 per cent.
Home and Away was the number seven show with 929,000 viewers, while the first episode of Seven’s new comedy The Goldbergs reached number eight with 869,000 viewers.
The ABC’s share for the night slipped below 10 per cent to 9.1 per cent with Chris Lilley’s Jonah From Tonga attracting just 289,000 viewers in the 9pm slot and Spicks and Specks fared little better at 8.30pm with 371,000.
Ten’s Masterchef reached number nine with 828,000 viewers in the 7.30pm time slot and Offspring attracted 812,000 at number Ten. The reasonable performance helped the network claw back some overall audience share to come in at 14.7 per cent.

Back in the day when Kerry Packer ran Nine he did it as a viewer. Nothing went to air unless it was likely to receive audience approval. Sad, but too many TV stations now only put to air budget approved shows.

I think the biggest question here is why on earth Channel 9 thought this garbage show had any chance of being successful in the first place! Dating shows have been out of fashion for a pretty long time now. Get with the times Channel 9 or you’ll be the next Channel 10!
