Nine wins the night while Rove’s return lifts The Project on Ten

Monday night saw Nine comprehensively beat its rival Seven on the back of a strong performance by The Block which topped the night with a metropolitan audience of 1.28m according to the OzTam Overnight figures.

Meanwhile the third episode of The Amazing Race Australia vs New Zealand delivered just 616,000 viewers in the 8.40pm slot despite a strong lead in from the X Factor which had 1.078m viewers, down on its first elimination last week which got 1.107m for its live results show.

Rove McManus’ return to The Project on Ten saw it become the highest rating show of the evening for the network with the 7pm slot drawing 730,000 viewers, and 528,000 tuning in from 6.30pm, up on last week’s result. David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities at 7.30pm drew 475,000.

The Amazing Race was beaten by House Husbands which had an audience of 966,000, while Nine also beat Seven in the 9.30 slot with The Man Who Ate Himself to Death beating US sitcom The Goldbergs with 454,000 to 326,000. 

The one bright note for Seven was in the news stakes where it had a rare win across the five metro cities with the network narrowly beating Nine with 1.192m compared with 1.62m. In the second half hour Seven had 1.102m to Nine’s 1.090m.

On the ABC an episode of Australian Story on the struggles of the children of sperm donor to find their biological parents got 880,000 viewers and was in the top ten for the night.

Nine won the night in terms of audience share on the main channel pulling 24.1 per cent compared with 19 per cent for Seven, 15 per cent for the ABC and 11 per cent for Ten.
