Nine wins the night as Big Brother boosts audience

big brother logoChannel Nine trumped its rivals on Thursday night, grabbing an audience share of 24.7 per cent off the back of The Block Glasshouse, Big Brother and Nine News, overnight OzTam metro TV ratings show.

Seven’s share slipped to 15.4 per cent from 16.2 per cent last week, with Ten posting an improved 12.6 per cent.

Big Brother’s audience has bounced back slightly in its fourth outing, with the reality show drawing a metro audience of 881,000 after posting its lowest audience on Wednesday evening of 777,000.

It had a lead-in of 1.283m with The Block Glasshouse, which won the night and was the most watched show across all demographics from 7.30pm, while Big Brother was the second most popular show in the demos, airing at 8.40pm.

Nine News grabbed an audience of 1.034m at 6pm before dropping to 980,000 at 6:30pm but it was enough to beat Seven in both timeslots. Seven News at 6pm was watched by 957,000 while 925,000 tuned in from 6:30pm.

Seven’s most popular entertainment program was soapie Home and Away which drew an audience of 770,000 in the 7pm timeslot.

Ten’s The Bachelor saw its Thursday night audience slip on last week’s with the reality dating show watched by 646,000 down on last week’s audience of 750,000. While it was the third most watched show in the 16 -39 and 18-49 demographics, it slipped to fourth most popular show amongst people aged 25 – 54, beaten by A Current Affair.

The show did manage to beat Seven’s The Secret Life of Babies, which aired from 8pm to 9pm, and had an audience of 591,000.

On the ABC, which had an audience share of 11.7 per cent, the ABC News was the most watched show with an audience of 771,000. 7.30 drew 655,000 while Catalyst was watched by 571,000 and drama series Silk grabbed an audience of 615,000, beating Seven and Ten for its hour-long run from 8.30pm.
