NineMSN joins Press Council
Another online publisher has signed up for the Australian Press Council with NineMSN coming on board.
The announcement:
The Chair of the Australian Press Council, Prof Julian Disney, announced today that ninemsn has joined the Press Council.
The publishers of Crikey, Mumbrella, Property Review, Banking Day and Urban Cinefile joined as online members of the Council earlier in the year.
Prof Disney said:
“The admission of ninemsn is another significant step in the Council’s coverage of online media.
Ninemsn is one of the most popular news sites in Australia. By joining the Press Council, it has shown a commitment to maintaining high standards of practice, and a willingness to be part of an independent system for handling complaints.”
The websites of Australia’s leading print publishers have been covered by the Council’s Standards of Practice for a number of years and most complaints to the Council now have some online element.
The addition of ninemsn will assist the Press Council in developing standards relevant to the publication of news and comment on digital platforms.
