UMM … ABC’s excellent News Breakfast program has been available by stream since it began last year. I think most ABC News programs are. ninemsn is SOOO cutting edge… I love the ‘unprecedented’ bit.

Radio stations have been streaming their full programs for years, so this is a logical step for the FTA’s. The only reason its taken so long for TV is data costs, AU’s poor broadband penetration and online rights restrictions (ie AFL, NRL, Cricket etc) . I’m sure if it’s accessible and the user experience is reasonable, people will use it.

odd. net usage pre 9am is very small. also, most people are in transit during this time

i don’t understand who this will help. can’t see ad dollars streaming in nor incremental eyes for the Today Show.

is it more around PR to get some advantage over the koch show?

The question is, why haven’t they done this sooner? They can still do ads, and I would guess that people won’t bother “channel surfing” – too difficult or pointless.

Getting a partnering arrangement with some ISPs (so the download doesn’t count towards monthly quota, like the ABC has) would be a logical next step.
