Nova announces a new Breakfast show with Tommy Little and Meshel Laurie
Nova 100 has this afternoon announced Tommy Little and Meshel Laurie will be the new hosts of Nova Melbourne’s breakfast show from next year.
The radio duo will replace Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek who announced last month that they would be finishing at the end of 2013.
Nova would not comment on the what the change meant for Nova’s national Drive show which is hosted by Laurie, Tim Blackwell and Marty Sheargold. However, a Nova spokeswoman did confirm that Blackwell and Sheargold would return next year in the drive time slot.
Mike Cass, dmg Radio’s Assistant Group Program Director said: “2014 will be an exciting year for breakfast radio in Melbourne and I’m massively excited that we’ve got Tommy & Meshel leading that charge. With one of the nation’s hottest comedians and one of the funniest and most accomplished broadcasters in the business, Nova 100’s breakfast listeners are in good hands.”
Little who has hosted the Nova weekend breakfast show and been a regular breakfast fill-in said he was excited about the new show: “Meshel Laurie is one of the funniest people in the country and sure I already love making funny TV with her so radio will be exactly the same, except hopefully I will be wearing less makeup.”
Laurie said, “I have a lot to learn from Tommy Little, mainly about Snapchat, herbal tea and girls. I look forward to the process.”
Meshel launched Nova 106.9’s breakfast show in 2005 and the team quickly became the No 1 FM breakfast show in Brisbane; in September 2011 the team moved to host Nova’s national drive show, again a show that became No 1.
Laurie and Little have also worked together as co-hosts on Channel Ten’s topical weekly chat show This Week Live.
…the obsession radio stations have with two show presenters? Often they are too try-hard at being funny and of course double the cost of one presenter.
