NSW Transport recruit comedian Shane Jacobson to promote boat safety

Comedian Shane Jacobson is the face of a new safety campaign from NSW Transport promoting lifejacket awareness and safe and responsible boating behaviour.

Jacobson appears in a series of online videos  created by George Patterson Y&R called “That’s Not On” which aim to drive home the message if your lifejacket is not on, it can’t save you with the tagline “Wear a lifejacket – it never ruined a day on the water”.

Jacobson said in a statement: “We want to see people get into the habit of putting on a lifejacket in the same way they remember to apply sunscreen – it is simple and could save their life”

The videos complement a print, TV and radio campaign aimed to remind people to wear a life jacket. A website provides information on lifejackets and safety.

Minister for roads and ports Duncan Gay said in a statement: “One of the hardest facts to contend with is that nine out 10 people who drowned while boating in NSW in the last decade were not wearing a lifejacket.

“Our boating safety officers are taking a zero tolerance approach this season and issuing on the spot fines to people who don’t wear their lifejacket.”
