Ogilvy Melbourne clocks world record – well an Australian record at least

The folks at Ogilvy Group Melbourne attempted a Foursquare swarm world record this week – created when more than 50 users of the social networking site check in at the same venue simultaneously.

More than 265 staff and guests “checked in” at its St Kilda office, in a bid to trump the previous highest known Swarm held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

But unbeknown to the agency, over on the other side of the world and seven hours earlier, Conan O’Brien’s audience at Radio City Music Hall in New York clocked 332 check-ins.

Oh well, Ogilvy did still mange to get the Australian record. Nice one guys.

  6. Hi Jono, that’s a reasonable assumption. It was however a sideshow to another event, and something that was done as an experiment and fun.

  8. I think it’s a great way of an agency getting themselved known in this space and showing they get it to their clients.

But agree with jono – the point is to have it at social/sporting events – bring on Spring Racing Carnival!

  10. Well done, boys – E+A.
Might want to ‘check-in’ to the toilet store, Jono. Boring would be starting a facebook fanpage, and after typing ‘Jono’ into fanpage search, i’m pretty sure i’ve tracked you down. Board shorts, Oakley sunnies, and a 2004 Macbook Pro with a Patts sticker on it? Nice.

  18. @ jono. If you hadn’t read, a number of Australian sporting and entertainment events had already tried to attempt a super swarm – the most was just over 90 check ins. Lolz.

And this was, in fact, a social event.

So I say good work to Ogilvy and the boys, you have more than double-pwnd that record and secured the first super swarm badge for Australia! Sikk.

  24. listen here, matey. back in the day, the industry was too busy crafting print ads for this self indulgent nonsense.

you need to invest less time into this marketing firm indulgence, more in your kerning abilities!
