Pedestrian.TV’s coverage of #YourTaxis – sponsored by Uber
In the last 24 hours the Victorian taxi industry’s #YourTaxis hashtag – its effort to fight back against Uber – has received more than its fair share of media coverage with everyone from the ABC, to News Corp, Fairfax, Huffpo and the Daily Mail having waded in.
However, Dr Mumbo can’t help but wonder if the advertising placement around Pedestrian.TV’s report might have needed a little disclaimer somewhere in the piece…
The ad is actually for Virgin Mobile’s promotion to win an Uber Safari (a ride in a safari-themed car, followed by a Safari) – but the fact remains Uber appears to have the taxi industry surrounded, and there’s no escape:
Had a chuckle when I noticed this. Made me question who started the campaign in the first place?

Uber definitely have insiders in the taxi world – many of their drivers are former taxi drivers. More in Queensland would transition in an instant if it was legal. In the meantime, they watch their incomes plummet while waiting for the Qld Govt to conduct a nine-month review.

I was in Melbourne CBD, however to the west of the city and was curious to understand the quickest route to the airport. I Googled Tullamarine Airport and selected directions to see the route, all on my smart phone. An Uber logo pops up on the map and gives me a time of how long it will take in an Uber cab to get there. Smart advertising that is and no hashtags involved at all.
