Penguin Books connect readers with authors in dial-a-story phone booth experience

Penguin Books Australia has connected authors and readers through specially crafted ‘Penguin Phone Booths’ which sees the two able to share stories.

Created by interactive experience agency Sandpit in collaboration with Penguin Books Australia, the phone booths are located in libraries around Australia and allow readers to dial one of five authors to hear a personal story from the author’s lives.

The authors then invite users to leave their own message which users can share on Facebook and Twitter using a unique URL given to them after hanging up.

TV personality John Safran is used to explain how the phone booth is used before introducing the authors which include celebrity gardener Jamie Durie, children’s book author Graeme Base, celebrity chef Maggie Beer and radio personality Father Bob Maguire.

The aim of the campaign is to connect readers with Australian authors and encourage readers to talk about their own stories.

The Dial-a-Story phone booth has visited the new Library at the Dock in Melbourne’s Docklands.
