Australian Radio Network’s 96FM was the big winner in the early weeks of 2015 as it leapt both Nova93.7 and Triple J to become Perth’s second most listened to radio station, behind Southern Cross Austereo’s Mix94.5.

The station, acquired by ARN from Fairfax at the end of last year, saw its share climb 1.3 points to 11.5 per cent which coincided with a 1.2 point fall at Nova and two point decline at Triple J as the stations took 11.4 per cent and nine per cent respectively.

Nova particularly suffered in the 25 to 39 and 40 to 54 demographic with falls of 6.8 and 3.5 points to 15.5 per cent and 8.3 per cent.

Mix stretched its lead in Perth with an audience share of almost 15 per cent, up from 13.8 per cent at the end of 2014.

The overall audience increase at 96FM was mirrored across most demographics with the exception of listeners aged 40-54 and those aged over 65.

It was also the big breakfast winner as the trio of Blackers, Carmen and Fitzi saw their audience share climb from 8.4 per cent to 11.6 per cent, behind Mix’s 14.9 per cent. The growth was in sharp contrast to Nova which saw an audience share dip of 2.1 points to 10.7 per cent while Triple J fared even worse, dropping 3.4 points to 7.6 per cent.

Nova did retain its drive time crown –  but only just. The team of Kate, Tim, and Marty captured a share of 15.1 per cent, down 0.5 points, allowing Lisa and Pete over on Mix to close the gap with a share rise of 1.5 points to 14.7 per cent.

Third most listened to drive show went to 96FM who edged ahead of Triple J.

ABC720 held off rivals on the AM frequency with a market-leading share of 10.3 per cent, up from 9.6 per cent.
