PETA heads downmarket
Who on earth would accuse animal rights organisation PETA of cheap tactics in its ad campaigns?

Wow – I was all about a Lamb barbie last week, but now, I’m feeling strangely like vegetables are the new ‘it’ food.

I was about to eat a salad but this just put me right off it. I feel a bit sick in the stomach now. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals should start thinking about the ethical treatment of women.

I am speechless. I love it but I am a red blooded male. Cannot see this being accepted well by many of the lady folk out there and sadly I can kinda see why. None the less, I still love it and have sent to link to my home email address and will grab a six pack and a bottle of vegetable oil on the way home, LOL!

I guess if you’re going to say something stupid, it’s best to hide that message and get the view count up with low-level porn.

I find this deeply offensive on a number of levels. Firstly, it is far more than simply suggestive, it is highly offensive. Secondly, with International Women’s Day this year marking 100 years of the movement, it beggars belief that an organisation would want to offend what I assume is its largest base – females! But then again, PETA is not known for having brains to spare. It was only a year or so ago that it wanted to rename all fish “Sea Kittens”…. “Help! Help! I’ve just had my leg chewed off by a 14 foot Great White Sea Kitten!” Pack of idiots!

YouYube have removed the video. Anyone know where else it is still available online?

Hi blc,
YouTube remvoed the video as a policy violation. I’ve updated the embed to a (slightly) tamer version Peta have put up today.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
That’s a shocker! I’m vego but I’m also a woman and I don’t think that ad is a great way to make their point!

Wow this makes me mad! yeah – I get that you are trying to sell that vegetarians have better sex, and yeah – sex sells. But sex does not have to be porn. Watching some semi naked chick get herself off with a bunch of tomato’s doesn’t make me want to become a vegetarian.

The ol’ “any publicity is good publicity” trick. I think this is a win for PETA as far as generating awareness and stimulating a viral response. Let’s face it – do they have the budget to actually air this ad? Would the advertising bodies allow it? I don’t think so. But, here we all are, talking about it. It has someway made it’s way to a screen near us, all the way “down under”. It’s offensive, crude, crass but we’ve all taken notice, haven’t we? And that casting session web portal is a nice touch.

Eat up that bait; you have to be kidding! Yes, we are talking about it – and it is probably 50:50 rampant testerone Vs distaste. You seem to posit that coverage equals success, but you need to measure the tonality of the coverage/comments to see what it actually means, and then equate this to the cost of the production. Based on the comments on mUmBRELLA, around 50% of people think it is crap. When you then take into account the cost of production, talent (and I use that word very guardedly), post production and whatever, PETA has paid a high price to piss off a heap of people. And I say again; to do this stupid, offensive and purile thing in the centennary year of IWD, when your target audience is heavily skewed towards females, is just plain dumb.
