Peter Meakin steps into ‘consultancy’ role with John Choueifate promoted to head of news
Ten’s news boss Peter Meakin has stepped back into a “consultancy” role with the TV Network and will be be replaced by John Choueifate.
Choueifate had been Meakin’s deputy, serving as news director since he joined his former boss, Meakin, at the TV Network in 2013.
The changing of the guard comes two years after Ten announced major redundancies in its news and current affairs division prompting Meakin, previously head of news at both Nine and Seven, to comment that he was an “admiral without a fleet”.
Network Ten announced Choueifate’s promotion today while also adding that Meakin had moved to an “executive consultant” role, with a spokesman adding that Meakin would still be “closely involved with The Project, Studio 10 and new projects”.
Network Ten CEO, Paul Anderson, said in a statement: “Peter has made an important and valuable contribution to our news and current affairs programs over the past two years, in particular to The Project, and I’m delighted that he is staying with us in his new role.
“John is one of the best and most experienced news and current affairs executives in Australia. Under his direction, the Ten Eyewitness News First At Five bulletins have continued to dominate their time slots around the country and continued to deliver compelling and informative news to our viewers seven days a week.”
