PHD London innovation director Joel Pearson has confirmed he is returning to Australia to take on the newly created role of head of digital innovation within the Sydney office, with the move coinciding with Alex Pacey moving into the new role of head of implementation planning.

Pacey, who has been with PHD since August last year, was previously the general manager of Ikon Communications while Pearson was PHD’s innovation director in London for just over two years.

Pearson will be pushing the digital output of the agency while Pacey will be responsible for the implementation output of over 40 employees at PHD.

On his appointment Pearson said: “I am delighted to be joining the team here in Sydney. I’ve worked for and with PHD in multiple roles over the years and believe they have a unique perspective and positioning which makes them one of the most interesting agencies in the market. I’m looking forward to delivering some odd and interesting work that not only excites the industry, but also delivers hard business results to our clients.”

The pair will work alongside each other and the other PHD community heads and will report into managing director Toby Hack.

Pearson was the strategist behind the global success of Dove’s Real Beauty Sketches.
