Puberty Blues final takes 578,000 for Ten

Puberty Blues 2 TenThe Puberty Blues finale brought 578,000 metro viewers to channel Ten last night, up on its debut for series two but less than the final for series one.

Ten launched the series to 544,000 in March, more than a year after the first series concluded in October 2012 to an audience of 707,000, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam.

It was third in its 9pm timeslot which was dominated by channel Nine as OzTam recorded 1.277m metro viewers for sitcom Mom, while Seven was second in the timeslot with 737,000 for The Blacklist.

Meanwhile the television premiere of Jonah from Tonga, with Chris Lilley, launched to 414,000 on ABC1 at 9pm.

In the battle of 7.30pm  Nine dominated again with The Voice rating 1.795m for its 90-minute run, ahead of Seven’s House Rules with 964,000 and Ten’s Masterchef with 787,000 viewers.

Competition was close in the news hour with Nine just beating Seven by less than 30,000 metro viewers in the first half hour and  picked up its lead in the second half hour with 1.158m viewers from 6.30pm as Seven had 1.078m.

Seven won the morning battle as Sunrise averaged 377,000 and Today had 285,000.

Nine won the night with 27.1 per cent of the metro audience share leaving Seven with 19.1 per cent as Ten held 13.5 per cent of the audience share. ABC1 was fourth with a 9.6 per cent share of the audience.

In catch-up viewing The Big Bang Theory on Nine was the most time-shifted show as its audience grew from 1.164m to 1.273m, and House Rules followed as its audience increased from 1.183m last week to 1.273m. The Big Bang Theory had 622,000 metro viewers for a repeat episode at 9.30pm last night.

The metro audience for Puberty Blues rose from 529,000 to 674,000 for last week’s episode, according to OzTam’s consolidated ratings, and channel Ten maintains the series has had 10m views on its catchup viewing app tenplay this year.

A spokeswoman for Ten said the network is talking to producers about a third series but a decision will not be made until later this year.

Jonah from Tonga was released on ABC iview before the linear broadcast with the entire six part series being made available online from Friday. A spokesman for the ABC said it was the most played program on iview over the weekend with 551,000 plays.
