Qantas video celebrates Emirates alliance
A promotional video for Qantas, which marks the alliance between the Australian carrier and Emirates, has appeared on YouTube.
The one minute, 50-seconds film was shot in locations all over the world, including London, Singapore, Istanbul, Texas and New York.
The film, which will appear inflight and in social media, finishes with the line, ‘Together connecting the globe’. The film is being promoted through paid placement on Facebook.
Update: The video was produced by Parliament Films and directed by Toby Morris, with no involvement from the airline’s creative agency Droga5.
Hmmm. If your ad is a bit of a travel mood reel, and could equally end on a Lonely Planet logo, you might want to up your game.

Wonderful until you’re a Jewish person forced to route through Dubai. Then it becomes decidedly less wonderful, I imagine.

Good if your considering travelling to america, which was the majority of the ad in general.

it’s ironic they have Singapore vision in there – and why so much NYC?

Wow! If only they had included and idea with that…

@ozhoppe – why so much NYC? – probably because it’s one of the most popular destinations in the world.
Makes me want to travel…

Let’s do a runthrough of the cities featured in this ad. Sydney, London (loads and loads of London), New York, Singapore (oh, the irony!), Dubai (presumably Dubai, although it seems more generic Middle East) and a glimpse of Paris.
Which of these are exciting new destinations for which we need the Emirates hook-up? Dubai is the only new port shown in this ad. Qantas flew to all of these locations before Emirates and Dubai came into the picture, including Paris being a codeshare with Air France (out of Singapore).
So how is this Qantas and Emirates connecting anything at all?
I was expecting this ad would have showcased a bunch of NEW destinations delivered through Emirates, to get me excited about the possibilities of booking Qantas-Emirates.
But instead we have an advertisement which profiles the same familiar locations (bar Dubai). Take out the Middle East footage and this could have been a Qantas ad from any time in the past decade!

Hi all,
Just to be clear, this is a promo video that will appear inflight and in social media – it’s not an ad as such, as we first reported.
Cheers,

I’ve got a great photo of that freestyle footballer, Iya, up near the Sacre Coeur in Paris. The dude is freakishly talented and a good guy to boot!

Gorgeous photography and great choice of music. I’d be happy to sit back and enjoy this inflight. Does it tell a story? Not really. Does it make me want to travel to these destinations? Yes!

I freakin’ love it. Thought it was stunning. Made me want to go to half those places… and roller skate in a pink tutu through Venice beach. And i understood Qantas and Emirates had joined forces. Job done. Beautifully. Bravo Droga5.

Beautifully shot, but what a dull set of city choices. A lot of Turkey, a lot of London and the US, but it seems to miss the point of the Emirates tie-up. Where were Dublin, Madrid, Moscow, etc.

Is it just me, or do those birds that look like they’re just about to collide send a bit of an off putting message about an airline?

Unless your travelling on an Israeli passport then you will have issues in UAE. Travelling on any other passport and being Jewish there are no issues.
I hate people who make stuff up when they don’t know what they’re talking about.
