The Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) 97.3FM has lost the ratings crown in the final survey of 2013, with the station losing 1.2 per cent audience share and rival DMG station Nova 106.9FM gaining 1.1 per cent to claim the title of most listened to station in Brisbane.

The final Nielsen Radio Ratings Survey of 2013 showed Nova106.FM with a 13.6 per cent share compared with 97.3FM which had 12 per cent on the Monday to Sunday audience.

Nova106.9 has been closely trailing 97.3FM for much of the year and finished the previous survey with its audience share 0.5 points behind its rival. The station’s breakfast show with Ash, Kipp & Luttsy maintained its status as Brisbane’s favourite FM breakfast show with an audience share of 12.1 per cent, up 0.4 per cent. 97.3′s Breakfast with Robin, Terry and Bob was down 0.4 per cent to 10.6 per cent.

97.3FM’s Drive Home with Campo lost the top slot in Drive to Nova106.9 which it won in the last ratings period falling 2.3 percent to 13.7 per cent. Nova106.9′s national Meshel, Tim and Marty has continued to grow its Brisbane audience up 0.7 per cent to 16 per cent. Nova recently announced Meshel Laurie will be leaving the national drive program to co-host a breakfast program in Melbourne.

ARN’s national content director Duncan Campbell told Mumbrella the loss of top spot for 97.3FM was “disappointing”, but added: “We’ve spent most of the year at number one against a great competitor in Nova, but it’s a very competitive market and we don’t expect Nova to hold onto that too long.”

Pointing to cumulative figures he also claimed 97.3FM had picked up 500,000 listeners this year, describing 2013 as its “best year”.

ABC612′s Breakfast with Spencer Howson remains the dominate force in breakfast overall, with an audience share of 15.4 per cent, while talkback rival 4BC’s breakfast program hosted by Ian Skippen trailed on 5.8 per cent, down 0.2 per cent.

Last week 4BC announced a major shake up at the station which will see Skippen joined by Loretta Ryan in the important breakfast slot. The changes will also see a new morning and drive host aimed at lifting the station which is on 4.9 per cent compared with 11.3 per cent in the latest survey for ABC 612.

ABC612′s evening programming which includes Evenings with Rebecca Levingston and Nightlife with Tony Delroy saw a recovery after falling in the last survey by 2.7 share points, with the show back up 1.4 per cent. Screen Shot 2013-12-10 at 10.22.00 AM
