FoxFM has regained its Melbourne FM ratings crown, boosting its Monday to Sunday market share by 0.2 ratings point (8.6 per cent) to beat Nova100, which had an audience share of 8.2 per cent, according to the latest radio ratings figures from Nielsen.

Triple M boosted its overall ratings to an 8 per cent share with The Hot Breakfast lifting its market share by 0.8 points to a 9.3 per cent, bumping Nova’s departing breakfast duo Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek from the top FM breakfast program.

Nova100’s breakfast show, which aired for the last time on November 29, had an 8.4 per cent audience share, down by 0.6 share points from the last ratings period.

Southern Cross Austereo owned FoxFM’s breakfast duo Matt Tilley and Jo Stanley, which also aired for the last time on November 29, held onto their number three FM breakfast position, boosting their audience share by 0.5 share points from 7.8 per cent share to an 8.3 per cent audience share.

Tilley will be the host of a new national drive show with Joe Hildebrand for SCA’s Triple M next year.

DMG Radio Australia owned Nova100’s national drive with Meshel, Tim and Marty continued to hold onto the top spot for drive, boosting its audience share by 0.3 share points from 10.5 per cent audience share to 10.8 per cent share.

National rivals the Fifi and Jules show, which airs on FoxFM, boosted their audience share by 1.3 points to a 10.2 per cent. In the new year, Fifi Box will leave the national drive show, teaming up with Dave Thornton for Fox FM’s new breakfast. The new team will go head-to-head with Nova’s new breakfast team to be hosted by Meshel Laurie and Tommy Little. Laurie will be replaced by Kate Richie in the drive team.

DMG’s group program director Paul Jackson told Mumbrella: “In Melbourne we’ve had Meshel as the lead person on our drive show up against Fifi on Fox. We’ve got 10.8, they’ve got 10.2, so we think things will be good for us next year with the new Meshel and Tommy at breakfast. We’re supremely confident.”

But Australian Radio Network national content director Duncan Campbell claimed the upheaval in that market would be good news for the Mix 101.1 which dipped below SmoothFM in the latest survey with a 5.8 per cent share, and Gold which also lost 0.5 per cent to take it below Fox.

In the AM market, 3AW continued to dominate, boosting its Monday to Friday audience share by 0.6 share points from 13.6 per cent to an audience share of 14.2 per cent, still comfortably ahead of ABC774 (11.3 per cent).

3AW’s Breakfast with Ross and John continues to take the overall breakfast crown, with an audience share of 19.7 per cent, while ABC774’s breakfast lagging behind with a share of 12.9 per cent, down from 14.2 per cent last ratings period.

ABC774’s Drive with Rafael Epstein saw its audience share fall from an 11 per cent share to  9.5 per cent share, with 3AW’s Tom Elliot pulling ahead despite his audience share dropping from 10.6 per cent to 10.3 per cent share.
