Radio unites in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide
The Radio United launch – one of the biggest events in the history of Australian radio – took place this morning.

Commercial and public service broadcasters in the five capital cities came together for the huge outside broadcast to promote digital radio.
The weather was generally kind to the event, with Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane staying dry, with rain in Perth only.
Sydney saw appearances from the likes of Guy Sebastian, Masterchef winner Julie Goodwin and NSW premier Nathan Rees. Usually deadly rivals appeared on each other’s shows, with Nova’s Merrick & Rosso using a roving microphone to appear on several shows.
Melbourne’s luminaries included Eskimo Joe and deputy PM Julia Gillard (pcitured below).
The morning, which begin at 5.30am AEST, included a roadblock package across all stations at 7.40am.
Nice walk through to Guy Sebastian. Thanks – Jen

Great pic of all our brekkie show radio favourites. Can anyone name them all? Obvious by their absence, of course, are two particular people. I bet that burns them and Austereo to the bone; to be missing from “one of the biggest events in the history of Australian radio”.

But what about the content? There are probably a few radio nerds who will get excited about a new fancy radio, but will the content be good enough to drive the conversion?
Given the sorry state of affairs in Sydney radio, i suspect the answer is NO. If programmers can’t generate any passion in radio listeners now, how will they do it with new bandwidth? They won’t.
In a couple of years, broadband will be available in all new cars and punters will be able to listen to any radio service anywhere. Hello sirius, bye bye Austereo.

Will local radio companies really invest in digital? Probably not.
