Monthly homes and lifestyle magazine Real Living has won the overall Excellence Award from Publishers Australia.

The Bauer Media Group publication magazine was also named best consumer magazine for circulation above 20,000 and judges praised its editorial and design, commented on its wide presence across many platforms and innovative events, resulting in a healthy advertising revenue and circulation growth.

Real Living Editor Deborah Bibby said: “All the negative press about magazines in this past year has only spurred us on at real living to be more fearless and creative. To that end we are very lucky to have incredible support behind the scenes from all departments at Bauer Media from advertising, retail, marketing, circulation, research and management – this win is truly a big team effort.”

The magazine has a circulation of around 80,000 and a target market of women 25-44.

Sterling Publishing’s mortgage and finance magazine The Adviser took the B2B magazine of the year award for the second year in a row, while Weight Watchers magazine won in the custom magazine category and Haymarket Media’s Limelight was consumer magazine of the year for circulation under 20,000.

Launch of the year went to Bauer Media Group’s Women’s Fitness magazine.

Mumbrella editor Tim Burrowes was named B2B Journalist of the year, on the day he announced would be his last on the news desk as he takes on the new role of content director across the Focal Attractions group of brands.

Focal Attractions was also a runner up for Small Publisher of the Year, while Mumbrella was a runner up for Multi-Channel Brand of the Year.

Encore editor Brooke Hemphill was a finalist for editor (below 20k circ.) while deputy editor of Mumbrella and Encore Nic Christensen was a finalist for B2B journalist of the year and Single Article of the Year.

More than 80 companies were represented at the awards and around 420 guests attended the event at Sydney’s Hilton hotel on Friday, resulting in 29 award winners.
