Red Cross Blood Service pitches media account putting Ikon on alert

red bloodThe Red Cross Blood Service is pitching its media account, Mumbrella understands.

The Melbourne based organisation is understood to be talking to a number of media agencies to handle the account, thought to be worth around $4m-$5m annually.

A spokeswoman for Red Cross Blood Service would not be drawn on the pitch for the business, which is currently held by incumbent Ikon Communications.

“We are not in a position to comment at this point in time,” said a spokeswoman.

At this point the shortlist is not clear but it is thought a number of Melbourne based agencies are lining up for the account.

Incumbent Ikon saw its CEO James Greet depart earlier this month after a mixed year in 2014 with the agency winning Flight Centre account out of its Brisbane office but losing Coca-Cola, RAC WA, Diageo, Goodman Fielder and SPC.

The agency also had to fight to retain its foundation client the Commonwealth Bank, with Ikon’s pitch effort being led by newly promoted Sydney managing partner Pat Crowley.
