The longstanding chief financial officer for IPG Mediabrands in Australia Reg Davidson has been named as the new chief operating officer of the holding group locally.

His promotion comes as executive chairman Henry Tajer prepares to step up to the role of global CEO of the group which houses brands including media agencies UM and Initiative, creative agency Ensemble and mobile marketing agency MNet.

Davidson has worked alongside Tajer for the last decade to build the holding group locally. However, his role is expected to be internally-focussed, with the promotion formalising reporting lines as Tajer prepares to depart for New York.

Whilst taking on the global role Tajer will also still formally be head of Mediabrands in Australia.

“Reg has been the most impressive business partner I have worked with in my years in the business,” said Tajer. “He has great instincts for the media industry and a very deft touch in the decisions that created and structured the strong businesses we have now and how we will continue to develop into the future.”

Davidson has been with the company for 12 years as chief financial officer. Mediabrands claims 600 employees across offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
