Ryan Stokes, the son of media tycoon Kerry Stokes, has been named CEO of Seven Group Holdings replacing Don Voelte.

The company announced that 38-year-old Stokes will take the reins after previously serving as the chief operating officer of the business, which has a 33.3 per cent in Seven West Media which owns the Seven Network, Pacific Magazines and 50 per cent of Yahoo7.

“Ryan Stokes is the right choice to lead the group forward and he will be an outstanding CEO. This is a natural progression and now is the right time for this transition,” said Voelte in a statement.

Voelte took over as CEO of Seven West Media from David Leckie in 2012, and was replaced almost exactly a year later by Tim Worner, and soon after took the role with Seven Group Holdings.

Executive chairman of Seven Group, Kerry Stokes thanked Voelte for his contribution to both Seven Group Holdings and Seven West Media.

“Don is greatly liked and respected within our companies,” said Stokes. “I want to thank him for all that he has contributed since first joining the board of West Australian Newspapers in 2008.”
