SAFM overhauling breakfast as Michael Beveridge and Hayley Pearson depart

Michael Beveridge and Hayley PearsonSouthern Cross Austereo’s SAFM is set to bring in a new breakfast show team with current hosts Michael Beveridge and Hayley Pearson announcing their departure this morning.

The duo announced their last show, which has struggled to get traction pulling a 6.7 audience share in the last round of radio ratings, will be on October 10.

Beveridge, a contestant on Big Brother 2012 and former adland copywriter, is set to stay with the network with other opportunities, while Pearson, who is expecting her second child, is leaving to spend more time with her family.

In a statement released by SCA today Pearson said: “I’ve decided to leave SAFM and to have a break from breakfast radio and to focus on other exciting radio and TV opportunities that offer more family friendly hours for the meantime. SAFM have been really supportive of our decision.”

The breakfast show has struggled against market leader Mix102.3 which had a share of 15.1 in breakfast in the last survey. SCA has not yet announced its line up to replace the pari.

SCA head of content Craig Bruce said: “Hayley is a very talented individual and her commitment to listeners and SAFM during her time in breakfast has been invaluable. We wish her all the best. We think Michael is a real star and we’re looking at lots of opportunities for him at the moment, with an announcement on what’s next not too far away.”

In a statement Beveridge said: “With Hayley going, and other exciting opportunities rearing their head, I’ve made the hard decision to also leave the SAFM breakfast show. And no…I know you’re all thinking it, but I won’t be taking up Port Adelaide on their very lucrative offer to join as a new full forward. Sorry Ken. I’ll still be heard on SAFM on the Weekend Breakfast show ( which is tops – you should give it a listen ) and have enjoyed every second at SAFM.”
