SBS loses another key exec as Peter Newman moves to WTFN
SBS has lost another key executive with the shift of Peter Newman to production company WTFN. Newman’s departure follows the exit of Mark Fairhurst to Eye Corp, announced last week.
Newman, who was head of production and development, takes on the same role at WTFN. His first duties include the fourth series of Bondi Vet and a new series featuring Tony Robinson.
The news comes just four months after Newman was promoted from commissioning editor of documentaries at SBS.
Newman is credited with the success of SBS’s Go Back To Where You Came From, which launched this winter.
WTFN MD Daryl Talbot said: “We’ve known Pete since he first moved to Australia from England. He is an extremely passionate TV producer with a great understanding of viewers’ tastes, and a ton of creative flair. With more projects coming on line in Australia and abroad, Pete’s skill set will boost our team of EP’s and help the company grow to the next level.”
In another move at WTFN, the company has created a new role – director of programs – to be filled by WTFN’s production and development head, Steve Oemcke.
SBS should really merge with the ABC. I think under Mark Scott the channel might actually do some good
