SBS to launch second TV channel tonight

SBS’s new digital TV channel, SBS2, launches at 6pm tonight.

The relatively low key first evening will see animated short Harvie Krumpet as the first show, a simulcast with SBS1 of World News Australia, followed by German drama series 112 Emergency.

Later in the year, the channel will be used as an overspill for SBS1′s Tour de France coverage when it clashes with The Ashes cricket.

After ABC2 and Ten’s sports channel One, SBS 2 is the third channel to offer alternative programming on the Freeview platform to the previously existing free channels.

The stop motion animation featured above was designed by Mighty Nice for SBS.

  2. Er, you mean SBS1, not ABC1, right?

  6. I was hoping to see quite a lot of new content on SBS2 but after the paltry funding raise they got in the federal budget this looks unlikely

Realistically SBS2 will be mostly world news + spillover + repeats
