SBS’s Go Back To Where You Came From announces celebrity cast
The new series of SBS’s hit show Go Back To Where You Came From will see six prominent faces.
Six personalities from politics, TV and radio who have contributed to the refugee and asylum seekers debate will be sent on the 25 day refugee journey in reverse.
The six people are: Angry Anderson, rock musician, conservative political activist and aspiring National Party candidate; Imogen Bailey, former Neighbours actress and animal rights activist; Catherine Deveny, writer and social commentator; Michael Smith, former radio presenter on 2UE and 4BC; Allan Asher, former Commonwealth Ombudsman and Peter Reith, former Howard Government senior cabinet minister including former minister for defence from 2000-2001.
Michael Ebeid, SBS managing director said: This year we are looking forward to seeing how these prominent Australians will tackle the challenging journey in a new and different way, as they travel to some of the world’s most perilous and despairing places to try to understand the reality of what life is like for refugees and asylum seekers.”
The three part series will go out in August. The third episode will be followed up by a special episode of Insight.
Go Back To Where You Came From two weeks ago won the Rose d’Or Award in Switzerland as well as previously winning the 2012 TV Week Logie Award for Most Outstanding Factual Program, and an Australian Directors Guild Award for best direction.
A wannabe politician, washed out rockstar and four people with “former” in their title.
Guess the bar for celebrity status is set pretty low these days.

Peter Reith was Defense Minister during the children overboard scandal. He alone could carry the program.

Im guessing SBS got a 32% increase in its budget on the back of “Go Back To Where You Came From”.
Maybe the Celebrity Edition will squeeze more money out of government coffers 🙂

This might be very good.

It would be better if they were all right wing crazies like Reith . That way, when they do the journey, the change, if any, in their attitudes will be greater and more interesting
Someone who is an animal activist is likely to be a kind person and pro-refugees anyway.

We had enough of Reith when he was in politics. Do we really have to have him shoved at us yet again?
