McKinna says Cool Ridge relaunch was a highlight

Drinks giant Schweppes is seeking a new head of marketing after present general manager of marketing Troy McKinna stepped down.

McKinna held the role for four years, overseeing the successful relaunch of the Cool Ridge water brand. He is also credited with changing the way Schweppes works with and remunerated agencies.

McKinna said it had been a challenge to develop a new way of working with agencies but he felt he was leaving the brand in better shape.

“It’s evident that we’ve needed a new way of developing big ideas and that the old retainer model is a thing of the past,” McKinna said.

“It’s been refreshing to work with the more progressive agencies in town that are up for the change. What’s been very clear is that clients and agencies should stop buying and selling head hours and should find a way to collaborate on ideas and IP and value it accordingly.

McKinna will join Agents of Spring as a director.

“Its an exciting time to work in the research and innovation game as its never been more important for the ongoing health of businesses to innovate faster than their competitors.  I’m looking forward to the adventures ahead,” he said.
